Miss AfriCanada Organization Raises $2,078 For Because I Am A Girl Canada

As the year 2012 comes to an end, we would like to spend some time to thank everyone who supported us this year as we celebrated our 14th Anniversary. This year we accomplished something we have never accomplished before as an organization. We raised $2,078 for Because I Am Girl with the help of our amazing Miss AfriCanada 2012 contestants, friends, family and supporters.
We hope to continue this success into the new year as we begin to prepare for our 15th Anniversary and the Miss AfriCanada 2013 Pageant.

Have a safe and happy new year, and once again thank you for all your support.

Miss AfriCanada 2012 A Night Of Hope A Night Of Change

"A Night for change, A night for Congo" was an event organized by Miss AfriCanada 2012 Christine Kitoko to raise awareness about gender-based violence in eastern Congo, and to raise funds for Panzi Hopsital in Bukavu. Both goals were accomplished with success on this night. The Miss AfriCanada Organization is very proud of what Christine accomplished and how she educated many on about the violence in Eastern Congo. The event was a huge success and as Christine's first event towards accomplishing her platform she has definitely started off very strong. Look out for more events in the coming year as we continue to "Break The Silence" about gender-based violence in Eastern Congo.

A special thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated their time and energy to help make this event a success.

No Body Left Out

In June 2012, Miss AfriCanada 2011 Jessica Acquaye, Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2011 Vanessa Acheampong and a few Miss AfriCanada 2012 contestants (Christine, Fatema and Frances) worked together delivering Jessica’s “No Body Left Out” workshop series at Dr. Marion Hilliard Senior Public School.  The objective of the workshop was to promote the notion among adolescent girls that taking care of one’s self by making healthy lifestyle modifications, can positively impact future goals and aspirations.  Jessica and her volunteers performed a series of activities centering on certain topics in order to get their message across.  In the morning they focused on body image, eating well, healthy living, female empowerment, future goals and making the right decisions. In the afternoon they focused on more physical activities such as Dance where the students learned to do the popular Azonto Dance(from Ghana), Aerobic exercises, team sports and other co-operative games. All in all the day was a great success and the students who took part in the “No Body Left Out” workshop definitely had a positive experience, one that will surely have an impact on their daily lives.
